Maternal Support Practitioner

The ”Maternal Support Practitioner” or  “Doula” is a professional trained in childbirth who provides emotional, physical, and educational support to a mother who is expecting, is experiencing labor, or has recently given birth.

Physical Support

Positioning strategies for relaxation and job development cross over for families with realistic calming steps such as soothing hugs, counter pressure, breathing techniques and other "doula magic." The skillful hands and positioning methods of a doula can often help a malpositioned baby find their way through the pelvis and into the arms of the birthing parent.

Emotional Support

“MSP” help families feel supported, ease the traumatic birth experience and also help create a space where the labor hormones can function at their full. Whether a birth is totally unmedicated or very medically complex, at this delicate, wonderful time in their lives each family will benefit from nurturing and bonding.

Partner Support

Whether it's a romantic partner, a relative or a family member like a grandmother, the birth partner's presence is a matter of conception. Our doulas are there to encourage any birth partner to be as active as they would like to be with the birth. Physical and emotional support makes a huge difference for everyone involved.
